Interaction Innovation Concept Evaluation

PC Capability Design Research
Goal: Help an Intel product team understand user behaviors, wants/needs, and pain points around a specific type of PC use case* in order to prioritize features/functionality.
Process: Storyboard key concepts, then conduct 1:1 interviews/concept evaluation with 2 user groups, refine storyboards based on feedback
Outcome: The research informed overall product direction, which would be used for planning future PC capabilities with OEMs and software vendors.
My Role
- Research strategy, design direction for scenario/storyboards, research direction for session planning, analysis, report creation
- Project/client lead
Interviews / Concept Evaluations
Recruit
PC laptop users who use their devices for a range of purposes (work, personal, content creation, media consumption, etc.)
IT administrators for small to medium sized businesses
Demographic mix for each
Session Design
Participants discussed their current work situations, tools, and processes, as well as general PC usage
Product concept walkthrough, discussion, and evaluation
Participatory design activity to understand how product concepts would fit into participants' current workflows and contexts

Analysis & Synthesis
We tagged the conversations to extract key themes from the qualitative feedback, as well as calculated ranking/ratings provided by participants. We also aggregated the participatory design activities to see what trends emerged.

The analysis led to insights around the most salient use cases for the concept, design considerations, and opportunities for further research.
Artifacts & Outcome
We delivered a findings and recommendations report, as well as updated concept mockups/storyboards based on the insights gathered. Our recommendations considered factors such as user value, technical feasibility, and design constraints to prioritize use cases and potential implementations of features/functionality.
